Section 144 imposed in Capital
ISLAMABAD: District Magistrate Islamabad on Saturday imposed Section 144 in the federal Capital to maintain peace and tranquility in the city. According to a notification, District Magistrate Amer Ali Ahmed, in the face of any possible staging of processions and demonstrations in district Islamabad, which are likely to threaten public peace, has issued the following order which will be imposed with immediate effect and continue to last for two months. According to order, all kinds of gatherings of five or more persons, processions, rallies and demonstrations at public places within the limits of the federal Capital is prohibited. The use of loudspeaker and sound amplifiers, except for ‘Azan’ and ‘Khutba’ for Juma prayers, has been prohibited within the limits of district. The district magistrate has also banned use of cassette players for making all kinds of objectionable, sectarian speeches and sermons at any place in the city. Under section 144 CrPC 1898, the distribution of handbills, pamphlets, affixing of posters and wall chalking is also strictly prohibited within the limits of the city. Moreover, under the same notification, the district magistrate has also put a ban on the publication regarding launching of any housing scheme or sale of plots, inviting applications to deposit membership fee or cost of plots in such housing schemes, without observing all legal and codal formalities as envisaged in the law unless prior permission is obtained from office of district magistrate.
