Musharraf must obtain vote of confidence: PM
BEIJING: President Pervez Musharraf is required to obtain a fresh vote of confidence from parliament, otherwise parliament has the option to exercise its right to impeach him, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday. Talking to reporters before leaving for Pakistan, Gilani said that Musharraf had toppled the democratic government of Nawaz Sharif in 1999. The PM termed the ouster a totally unconstitutional step and said that the people of Pakistan had strongly reacted against it. Gilani underlined the need to check cross-border terrorism on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He said that he had requested Hamid Karzai to pay more attention to monitoring cross-border movement. app
