Draft charge sheet finalized, handed over to law minister

ISLAMABAD: The committee of Pakistan People’s Party and Muslim League-N set up for the preparation of charge sheet against President Musharraf impeachment has finalized the draft and handed it over to the law minister. The impeachment committee, comprising of Leader of the House in Senate, Raza Rabbani, ML-N’s Ishaq Dar and Education Minister, Ahsan Iqbal, Law Minister Faruque H Naek and Farhatullah Babar, held meetings for six days at the residence of Information Minister, Sherry Rahman here and thrashed out a draft of charge sheet against the President. Following the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal and Sherry Rahman told media that the committee has handed over the charge sheet against President to the law minister, who would now pass it on to Asif Ali Zardari, nawaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Asfandyar Wali. They said that President should resign before the impeachment. The decision giving President Musharraf safe exit or not lies with the parliament and it would be decided there, they said. Ahsan Iqbal said that all the charges have been framed under the Article 47 of the constitution and these could not be challenged in any court. Sherry Rahman and Ahsan Iqbal said that the President’s impeachment motion could be presented next week in the parliament.
