Bajaur operation: Rehabilitation of victims top priority, says minister

ISLAMABAD: The government is giving priority to the rehabilitation of people, who have left their homes due to military operation against terrorists in Bajaur, said Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Najmuddin Khan while talking to Ms Guenet Buebre Chritsos, Country Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Pakistan, who called on him here on Monday. They discussed matters pertaining to refugees and the facilities being provided to them at the camps. Najmuddin said the UNHCR had pledged to make all arrangements for around 250,000 people affected by Bajaur operation. So far, he added, UNHCR had provided 1984 tents, 1,500 plastic bags, 10,000 blankets and eatable commodities for the affected people. “It (UNHCR) is willing to do more, however, its awaiting response from the federal government in this respect,” the minister said. He assured all possible support to the UNHCR in its endeavours to elevate living standards of refugees at camps. Najmuddin said the UNHCR officials would stay here for some days to discuss refugees’ issues. Secretary SAFRON Muhammad Sharif and Commissioner Afghan Refugee Dr Imran Zeb were also present on the occasion. app
