Ban on Shoaib temporarily lifted, clearing way for IPL participation
LAHORE: A Pakistan Cricket Board appellate tribunal on Sunday suspended for a month a five-year ban on fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar to allow him to participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament. The tribunal, headed by Aftab Farrukh, accepted a plea from Akhtar’s lawyers that the ban should be temporarily suspended. Last week, the tribunal allowed Akhtar to play outside Pakistan but Indian authorities refused to allow him to participate in the IPL until the ban was lifted. Addressing reporters at the National Cricket Academy, Aftab said, “We have suspended the ban for one month and the next hearing will be held on June 4.”
