Cabinet likely to approve 5-day work week today

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet is expected to approve an energy conservation plan today (Wednesday) that includes two weekly holidays, official sources told Daily Times on Tuesday. The plan submitted to the cabinet includes closure of shops by 8pm and industrial holidays. It is likely to save about 1,000 megawatts of power a day. Consultations with other ministers, power distribution companies, and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) had been completed, the sources said, and they had approved the plan. But the export-oriented industry sought immunity from power cuts so that they could meet their deadlines. zafar bhutta
