PEMRA to award 14 more radio licences
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Saturday decided to award FM radio licences to 14 more cities and regions. A FM radio licence for educational purpose to the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute for Science and Technology (SZABIST) Larkana Campus will also be granted. The decision was made in the 48th meeting of PEMRA chaired by PEMRA Chairman Mushtaq Malik. With the award of these licences, the number of licensed FM radios in Pakistan will now rise to 120 and those for educational purpose to 14, a spokesman said. Areas awarded licences are Bahawalpur, Tando Allah Yar Khan, Kashmore, Bolan, Loralai, Qilla Saifullah, Attock, Upper Dir, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Kharan and Mastung. Secretary Information and Broadcasting Akram Shaheedi, Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah, FBR Chairman Abdullah Yousuf Ali and PTA Chairman Shahzada Alam Malik were also present in the meeting. Mushtaq Malik said the licences were being issued to provide healthy and accessible media in the country.
